Our Story
Our story begins with Jesus Christ.
In Matthew 16:18 Jesus declares, "I will build my church." Throughout our history, we have always focused on being a congregation of that church.
In Matthew 16:18 Jesus declares, "I will build my church." Throughout our history, we have always focused on being a congregation of that church.
In 1961, R.A. Craig began traveling from Shelbyville, KY to meet with a small number of people in Bourbon County. During that time, he was coming on Sunday afternoons and preaching to about 5 people. They met in a rented space in the Odd Fellow's Lodge during that first year. Brother Craig was working in several communities, and there was a need for someone to come and work full time in Bourbon County. By November 1961, several preachers in KY had convinced George Rogers to come and work full time with the Paris church of Christ. He made the move with his wife, Deloris, and young son, Russell, who now serves as one of our elders.

By 1962, the church had grown so much that it needed to meet in a larger space. A small brick house was rented on High Street, where the congregation continued to meet until 1965. By that time, the church had need of a permanent facility, and purchased a plot of ground on Main Street. For about two years they met in an old home located on the property until the current building at 1923 S. Main Street was completed in 1967. The building was dedicated on April 30, 1967.

The building and the congregation have continued to grow and change since that date. We're proud of all the men and women who've gotten us to this point. We're most thankful for Jesus Christ, and we continue to look towards the future as we serve Him. We invite you to become a part of our story, as He has made us a part of His!
